An IT supplier to the NHS has written to MPs to “correct” evidence given by Health CIO Christine Connelly to the Public Accounts Committee.
The implications of the supplier’s corrections are that MP Richard Bacon has been right all along - that the Department of Health is paying BT as much as £200m more than necessary for installing the RiO patient record system at 25 trusts in the south of England.
The corrections by CSE Healthcare Systems - supplier of “RiO” - call into question the Department's justifications for the high costs of RiO when installed and run under the NPfIT.
If the Department's assumptions about RiO are incorrect, it's possible that officials have drafted a memorandum of understanding with CSC that is also based on incorrect assumptions.
It’s too late to change the NPfIT contracts with BT for RiO. But the Cabinet Office’s Major Projects Authority is now reviewing £2.9bn worth of NPfIT contracts with CSC.
