Canonical announced Ubuntu Phone, a new distribution of Ubuntu aimed at mobile devices. It allows both native Linux applications and HTML 5 web-apps to be used on touch-screen devices. The visual design is as "gorgeous" as Canonical say it is and it could be a strong contended in mobile - as long as Canonical get lucky at CES in Las Vegas this week. Here's an interview I conducted with a Canonical product manager:
Data on open source cloud community growth was published. While some are concerned that this data may not tell the whole story, there's no doubt that the Apache CloudStack project is growing fast and trying to play catch-up to the strong growth of the OpenStack project.
An FSFE member accused Google of taking the Android SDK proprietary, but others asserted nothing has changed. (Google did not reply to my request for comment)
In France, Mandriva announced that the OpenMandriva project as incorporated as a non-profit foundation, finally making concrete the peace-making with the community that was promised when Mandriva's new management took over.
