The Nokia Lumia 800 is getting a battery life bug fix. Nokia (HEL:NOK1V) (NYSE:NOK) says it's fixing the problem with a couple of patches. Please stand by for updates.

- On the one hand, the two patches, in December and January, can't come soon enough.
- On The Other Hand, full marks to Nokia for publicly acknowledging the problem, in stark contrast to Apple.

In a Nokia support forum posting made today, the company said: "A software update...will include improvements to power efficiency, while a second update...introduces further enhancements to battery life and battery charging."
...
So the first update may not fix the problem, but it hopes the second one will.
Tom Warren adds:
The first update...will bump the Windows Phone version to 7740...[which] has been made available to some carriers overseas but the vast majority will start to see the update in early December. ... The Windows Phone version is updated to 7.10.7740.16.
...
Nokia’s second Windows Phone update will address further battery issues. ... Both updates will be made available via Microsoft’s Zune software.
Nokia's Michael Spillett is the horse's mouth:

We recommend that anyone who still has concerns contact local Nokia care representatives at their earliest convenience.

I thought my iPhone 3GS had a bad battery but the 'Amazing Half-a-Day' phone really takes the Micky.

However, Luke Johnson says the grass isn't always greener:
With Apple’s iOS 5.0.1 update largely failing to rectify its handset crippling battery drain issues Nokia will be hoping for more success.
Meanwhile, Vlad Savov wonders if there's a bad batch of hardware out there:
We haven't had any such problems on our Lumia 800 review devices, leading us to believe that the issue is not universal to all handsets.
