Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) is dipping its toe in the chilly, shark-infested waters of retail. The first of "several" Chromezones have opened in London and Essex, as shop-within-a-shop concessions inside of PC World/Currys. But the only thing they sell is the cloud-based Chromebook laptops.

Staff [said] that they had shifted "quite a few" of the £349/£399 mini-laptops since the Google Shop...opened on Thursday night. One...said that it had been so busy at the weekend they'd had to double up...to deal with the Google fans wanting to get hands-on.

The outlet is run within PC World/Curry's shops and demonstrate Google just dipping its toe in the world of...retail. Google is clearly channelling Apple here: its products - namely variations on the...Chromebook semi-laptop - are laid out [to] encourage buyers to have a poke around, while the minimalist decoration contains plenty of instances of the Chrome logo. .
